Sylvester Martin and his wife, Laura, lived in Caton, New York. The Martin family included seven children: Lavina, Rhoda Lodema, Eliza, Mary Ann, Nathan, Joseph, and Ferdinand. Lavina (1828-1879) married Lewis Wood and lived on the family farm in Caton throughout her life. The rest of the family moved west, some settling in Iowa. Rhoda Lodema married Seneca Marcy in 1846 and lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Clarence, Iowa. Sylvester and Laura Martin and their other children followed ...
